Museum Tekstil

Located at Jalan K.S. Tubun No. 2-4, Slipi, West Jakarta, the Textile Museum (Museum Tekstil) is housed within a stunning 19th-century colonial-style villa that originally belonged to a French national before changing hands to various local and foreign owners. The estate was officially inaugurated as a museum on June 28, 1976, by Madame Tien Soeharto to preserve and promote Indonesia's diverse textile traditions. The museum houses a vast collection of over 3,000 traditional textiles from across the Indonesian archipelago, showcasing intricate techniques such as batiks from Java, weaving from Sumatra, Flores, and Bali, as well as ikat and songket fabrics. Permanent exhibition spaces feature the Gallery of Textiles, the Batik Gallery, and a special conservatory dedicated to natural dyes. Visitors can also explore a garden filled with living plants used to produce traditional natural dyes. The museum welcomes visitors from Tuesday to Sunday, remaining closed on Mondays and national holidays. In addition to indoor galleries, the facility features a dedicated workshop building where visitors can participate in hands-on batik-making classes, making it an engaging and educational destination for culture enthusiasts, craft makers, and travelers.
