Museum Sejarah Jakarta

The Jakarta History Museum, also widely known as Museum Fatahillah, is situated at Jalan Taman Fatahillah No. 1, West Jakarta. Housed in the former stately City Hall (Stadhuis) of Batavia built in 1710 by Governor-General Johan van Hoorn, this grand neoclassical building stands as a primary architectural landmark of Jakarta Old Town (Kota Tua). Inside, the museum preserves over 25,000 historical items reflecting the region's long heritage, spanning the prehistoric era, the Tarumanagara and Pajajaran kingdoms, the Dutch East India Company (VOC) colonial period, up to the struggle for Indonesian independence. Visitors can explore approximately 37 rooms featuring antique Dutch-era colonial furniture, ancient maps, ceramics, inscriptions, and historical paintings. Notable sections include the underground prison cells historically used during the Dutch colonial era.
